Our holiday started when we locked our door and were whisked away to the airport by Red Car. Prior to boarding we had something to eat and drink at the Premium Lounge, a nice treat! Our nearly 11 hour flight to Athens on Air Canada was excellent. After dinner was served onboard we slept until a half hour out of Athens. We had a three hour wait before our 45 minute flight to Naxos, where we overnight to catch the noon fast ferry to Koufonissi. Our host in Naxos picked us up at the airport and delivered us to our studio apartment. It was our second time staying with him. By the time we were settled it was mid afternoon so we were able to visit the port. We reminisced about the good times we had when we were here 10 years ago with our dear friends, Pam and Bruce. We wandered the alleyways and found the Airbnb we stayed at with them, so fun. We checked out prices at the restaurants and realized they were at least 25% higher than our previous stopover 2 years ago. The new reality.
We spent the rest of our evening playing on our iPads on our outside patio. A beautiful cat decided to join us. She rubbed herself on us then settled on our door mat. We love all of the cats in Greece. They are alley cats so we were surprised by the one that was looking for affection. We were happy to oblige.
The next morning, we were woken up by the church bells at seven. I found a coffee shop close by and asked for two black coffees. He asked, Americano? I said no, Canadiana. At first they had a puzzled look, then they broke out laughing. Canadian? Yes, Canadian. It was go time.We rolled our carryon bags to the dock where we caught the fast ferry to Koufonissi, a half hour ride.
