Day 3 Syros

Sept 1, 2023

We had a long sleep-in as we were running with a sleep deficit. Before we headed out, we went to the market and bought a bream and six large head-on prawns for dinner, along with fixings for a salad. We decided to walk up to the highest point on the island, Ano Syros, called the Challenge Trail. Tripadvisor suggested it shouldn’t be attempted mid day and only if in good physical condition. That’s us right? They said it was 200 marble steps, piece of cake.

The route started with lots of steps so we thought those were the steps. They weren’t. We kept stopping for a breather and water. It was hot. Then we got to the 200 steps. We looked at each other and said, maybe we should have taken a bus. We soldiered on within sight of the summit where we stopped at a pizza place. Beer and pizza was in order. The views from the restaurant convinced us not to go any higher. We cooled down as we recharged and took in the views.

The walk back down was a breeze, although we were bagged when we struggled to find some cold beer and wine to take home for dinner. Shower time and writing my blog on our balcony was a nice end to our challenging day. We have full cooking facilities, so dinner should be a breeze.
