Day 5, Alvor, Portugal, May 12, 2025

I have been suffering with Morton’s Neuroma for the past several weeks, which has not allowed me to walk without pain and limping, thus not getting in shape for this trip. Regardless, I have soldered on. To top it off, I developed eczema on my foot. I had it as a child behind my knees and for some reason it is back again. Treatment has been iffy. My foot hurts, my calfs are sore, but still we walk. Also, the skin behind my big toe has split open.

Today we walked the boardwalk the long way to Alvor where we watched a Fisherman clean a load of flat fish while the gulls patiently waited for him to pull out the guts, which he indiscriminately shared with the waiting hordes. We continued along the walk then into town. We spotted a place that had eggs Benedict which was just what appealed to us for lunch. It is a meal I do not make at home, so it was a real treat and so satisfying. We stopped by a pharmacy to pickup some spray on bandage and then some white wine at the grocery store where it was on sale for €1.99. We had a bottle the other night, and it was delicious. We also bought some pork burger patties and Portuguese buns for dinner. After a snooze, we found another place in our complex to play pool. I won the first game. It was downhill from there. I married a pool shark with no mercy. Three days in a row, Jill is the champ. The bar also had bifana on it’s snack menu. Our favourite Portuguese sandwich on a bun is going to be our lunch tomorrow.

Our pork burgers were awesome. We are cooking on a convection stove. I cook at home with gas so not used to the timing, but like I say, it’s better than camping. They were delicious. I may consider making pork burgers when we get home. Sprinkled with piri piri topped off the flavour and pan fried with olive oil, yum.

Another wonderful day in Portugal.

  1. That's a shame about your foot and your leg. Hopefully you'll feel better soon.

Day 18, Alvor, Portugal, May 25, 2025

Our last day in Alvor. I was happy to see that the swelling was going down substantially in my foot so we decided to go for one last walk on...
