Koufonissi, Greece, September 21, 2025

We were up early for breakfast. Eggs, toast, bacon, fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee, fruit, Greek yogurt, jams, and a large bottle of water to take back to our room. The buckwheat toast is delicious with butter.

The winds have died down substantially, but they are still creating waves at the normally calm port beach. Jill’s foot is slightly better although still painful. We slow walked to Finikas beach via the dusty road. Jill is such a trooper. She soldiered on as we passed some beautiful old Bougainvillea and round stone beaches reserved for the daring. We stopped at a bench to rest where we had a lovely view of Kato Koufonissi, the uninhabited island of Koufonissia. As we got closer to Finikas beach, one of the boats which services the four beaches, was heading towards Fanos beach.

When we got home, we snacked on crackers, olives and cheese and finished off the chicken salad. Jill did some laundry while I had a short snooze as the warm breeze billowed me to sleep. It was scrabble rematch time. We moved down to the breakfast deck and set up. I jumped into the lead after several high scoring words, but it was all for naught. Jill was like a racehorse on steroids. Big high scoring words and combinations and taking advantage of every double, triple score available. She left me in the dust. What a lovely way to spend an afternoon with my Baby.

Tomorrow is our last day. We plan to go to Pori beach, the furthest and largest sand beach with the boat shuttle. It runs every half hour and only stops when it sees people on the beach docks.

Tonight is leftover night. Tomorrow, we plan to go out for dinner on our last night. I hustled down to the store and picked up a red pepper, a cucumber, a tomato, and olives for the oil and vinegar salad. We do not have cooking facilities in Ios so all of our meals will be out. Having dinner on our balcony is the best, while watching the sunset versus sitting in a restaurant with no view. Not to mention the money we save.

Our dinner was epic for a leftover dinner with a fresh salad. Jill was craving a coffee so I hustled down to the market and got a jar of NescafĂ© Gold. I couldn’t pass up buying a small container of mini pistachio baklavas. On the way back, I took a picture of the Rastoni Bar, but not tonight Josephine. We drank our coffee on our balcony with Tsipouro. Our day is now complete.
