Sydney, Australia 2019 day 14

We had another great day. This morning we walked through the Cross to Victoria Street and down to Embarkation Park, a great oasis of green at the end of the street where dogs can run free. Have I mentioned how well behaved dogs are in Sydney? We have seen quite a few that are off leash on the street and just follow their masters. Embarkation Park was built on top of a multi-level parking garage for Naval servicemen. The naval ships at Cowper Wharf looked enormous from this view point. Woolloomooloo is in the background as is the city centre.

We decided that today we would go to Bondi Beach and walk along the sand  form south Bondi to north Bondi and then walk the rocks. This was the icing on the cake of our farewell to Sydney holiday. The water was surprisingly icy cold but great for cooling down. In the summer, when we were kids, walking the rocks was a part of our Sunday pleasure. Today, the sea was as calm as it gets and the tide was very low. The large rock at the end was spit out of the sea during a major storm on July 15, 1912. It weighs 235 ton. I still find it hard to understand how a storm could do this but then again, the power of the sea has no bounds.

Today was a hot one at 36C or 97F. We carry water in an insulated bottle, a must in this heat. Humidity was at 90%. Transportation is so easy with a bus and a train to get us home for minimal cost and very little waiting time for connections. Today, when we got on the bus at Bondi Junction, the train and bus hub, a young woman got up and gave Jill her seat. I spotted a seat at the back of the double articulated bus and as I was telling Jill, the young woman seated in front of Jill jumped up and said, “you should sit together” and gave me her seat as she moved to the back. Have I mentioned how polite, friendly, and courteous the people are in Sydney? Very cosmopolitan and everyone is nice to each other. The shop keepers greet you like best of friends with good wishes as you leave.  All very genuine.

On the way home we stopped in the Cross to get some fresh Flathead for dinner, a favourite fish of ours. In the little village of Potts Point/Kings Cross, there are four major grocery stores, small sized, but with all you would ever need, including fresh produce, meat, poultry and fish and all within walking distance. We absolutely love it here.
