Sydney, Australia, 2019 Day 5

We are enjoying ourselves too much, loving being here in Sydney. It is where my soul resides. Our plan today was to walk to Paddington, but first we had to take a picture of me outside of Manar, in the same position, 64 years later. The tree across the street was still there, but of course, a lot more mature.

Yesterday, although we slathered on sunscreen, it didn’t work (too red) so we bought a product with 50+ protection produced by the Cancer Council with Aloe Vera and vitamin E. Awesome stuff. We made our way to Oxford Street, where you shop if you have lots of money. We then  worked our way to Queen St, passed incredibly beautiful vintage houses, pics included, to Attunga St, the steepest street in Sydney, with a 25 degree grade. It took us to Cooper Park, an oasis of greenery, unlike anything in Sydney, with fern trees and a history of helping provide employment in the 1930’s during the depression. We climbed the steps up to Edgecliff Road and made our way to Bondi Junction, where were caught the train back to Kings Cross.

We got back at 2 and had an early dinner as we soothed our aching bodies. We went for an after dinner walk to Elizabeth Bay. There’s a property called Boomerang that covers a large area of the shore with its iconic multi coloured clay roof tiles. It belongs to the family of Jacques Albert who created the boomerang brand for musical instruments in 1885 and is the longest family run music company in Australia, known mainly for its harmonica. We then walked to McElhone Reserve, which my parents called “Little Park”, I think because they couldn't pronounce the name. It was a place of serenity when we were children with a stone bridge over the pond filled with large coy fish. Across the road is Elizabeth Bay house, now a tourist attraction and Manar, where we lived, on top of the sandstone cliff above.

  1. Fabulous collection of photos! Cooper Park is so lush and beautiful. I remember walking over the little bridge in Little Park. Love the photo of you then and now.

  2. I don't recall the use of "mature" (how you refer to the tree) in the Peter and Paul song.
