Our walking tour guide recommended that we lose ourselves in Porto, so that was the plan for today. We zigzagged southeast so that we could find a walk that followed the Douro River and that is what we found. We walked to the second bridge, which looked new and was made of concrete. We stopped at a small restaurant for lunch with outdoor tables overlooking the river. This was not a tourist area and was very quiet. We checked out the menu and were happy to see we could get a bifana. The restaurant was participating in a tourist promotion which included a survey to be filled out by each customer. We each ordered a bifana and a Super Bock beer. It was better than our previous bifana. The marinade must have included some hot peppers as it had a slight kick. It was beyond delicious and to top it off, inexpensive. Just 8 Euros total for 2 sandwiches and 2 beer.
We carried on until the road ended and then we turned around and made our way back home, stopping to pick up 2 pastel de nata for our after dinner espressos. Another day of walking in the city. We have walked from 4 to 5 hours every day and feel ourselves getting stronger.
Today was our last full day in Porto. Tomorrow morning we are catching the bus to Nazare. It’s a two hour trip south to where the largest waves in the world develop during winter storms.
The pork on a bun looks great! With all the walking practice you are getting, you will be walking to the Legion on Fridays with all your equipment.
