Day 8, Nazare, Portugal May 13, 2024

We woke up to a forecast of rain and cold but we decided to take the funicular up to Sitio above the cliff overlooking Nazare. It cost 8 euros return for two. We walked around to the different viewing points and I could not stop myself from taking picture after picture. We walked to the beach which has the largest waves in the world when a storm comes in. Back up we found a great restaurant with a view. We sat outside and had a delicious late lunch. I ordered grilled squid which was one of the best I’ve had. Jill was happy with a salad and a cheese tray with olives, cheese and fresh bread.

We could see weather rolling in as the horizon was disappearing. A stop at the grocery store for a roasted chicken, tomatoes for a salad with a red pepper, hot sauce and wine. Oh, and two pastel de nata to have with some port after dinner. We relaxed for a bit and then headed out for a walk. Weather was coming in. Even the birds on the beach were laying low. Then the rain and wind hit. We high tailed it back home by taking the side streets which were more protected from the elements. Nice to have an air conditioner which also produces heat.
