Day 7, Alvor, Portugal, May 14, 2025

We woke up to a clear blue sky this morning with temperatures forecast from 18 - 20c. As planned, we took an Uber to Praia da Rocha. It is where we joined Gay and Roy many years ago in February. We reminisced as we saw the restaurant where we’d have a coffee and a brandy for €1. We trekked along the cliff walk where Jill and I put the finishing touches on my song Winner. The cliffs are stunningly beautiful. A testament to how nature has sculpted the world throughout the ages. I couldn’t stop taking pictures as it was more beautiful around every turn.

We followed the cliff walk from Praia do Vau to the west and then back to Praia da Rocha. The water looked so clear and inviting but we knew it was really cold. It never gets warmer than 21c. Time for lunch. We spotted a place that was packed and when we looked at the menu we understood why. Prices were so much lower than all the places we passed along the way. We both had a pint of beer while we waited for my bifana and fries and Jill’s roasted chicken sandwich. It was delicious and cost a mere €14.50 ($21.75) which is basically what we pay for 2 pints back home.

We took an Uber back home, which is slightly more than the bus - €4.50. Pool time. I caught a few rays while Jill read her book by the pool. I left her and headed for the pool table to sharpen up my  game before our next match. I’m down 3-1.

Tonight I was planning our dinner and Jill suggested we use up our leftovers in a pasta. We did an inventory; cooked pork sausages, half a tomato, a third of a zucchini - and our pantry provided parsley, green olives, garlic, capers, white wine, olive oil and piri pirri flakes. I snuck in a quarter chicken cube to add some extra umami and it was delicious. We don’t throw out leftovers, we reinvent them and enjoy them sometimes even more the next day.

Our last day in Alvor. I was happy to see that the swelling was going down substantially in my foot so we decided to go for one last walk on...
