Day 1/2, September 13/14, 2024, Departure to Greece

We used Red Car to get to the airport. We flew through security and headed for the lounge where we had great seats and enjoyed snacks with champagne, a deal Jill snagged with a new credit card. Our Air Transat plane was an A330I. Jill selected seats in the two-seat row at the back of the plane. The negative was that by the time they got to us with meal service the meat lasagna was no more. We turned down the vegan chilli and opted for the kids tomato pasta. Not impressed. It was a nice plane with great lighting but the aisles were very narrow and we had to walk sideways to get to the toilets to avoid hitting people’s arms. I never noticed how loud plane engines were on previous flights. I measured the decibels which averaged 85 most of the time but 95 when changing course. It was loud. Our flight was 10 hours to Athens, then a four hour wait for a 45 minute flight to Kos on Aegean for a one night layover.

We took a bus from the airport to the port. Our hotel was just minutes away for our one night stay. It was dinner time. We picked a restaurant doors away. I had baby calamari and Jill couldn’t resist having cheese saganaki and we shared a Greek salad. Since covid, prices have certainly increased for food, around double. House wine and beer somewhat less. Tomorrow we are catching the 9am ferry to Kalymnos.
