The wind is still strong but has slowed down enough for the ferries to start up again, although we have read horrendous stories of people being seasick. The swelling in Jill’s foot has subsided somewhat, but now is more painful. After breakfast, which comes with our room, we walked to the beach. Jill waited on a bench while I walked to the two markets to gather up the ingredients for lemon chicken. No lunch today as we had a late breakfast. Greece consumes more tomatoes than any other country in Europe. I can understand why, they are as red as can be and so tasty.
The weather could not be more perfect. A warm breeze and peacefulness like no other. We went down to the breakfast area and played scrabble. Of course, Jill cleaned my clock. Her skill and luck follows her everywhere. It was wonderful to have the warm breeze and silence as we laughed. This was the first time we used all of the letters with Jill using her very last one. Bravo Jill!
We decided on a cucumbers and tomato, oil and vinegar salad to go with our chicken. Jill added short grain rice to soak up the white wine chicken stock cooking liquid.
This afternoon the ferries brought in new guests. We met a couple from Hobart, Australia who have been travelling for a month and ending their vacation in Koufonissi. We chatted with a woman who has been coming here from Switzerland for two months in the spring and two months in the fall. She lost her husband ten years ago and keeps coming back. It is her happy place. Wonderful!
Our dinner turned out really well. I took the meat off the bone to finish cooking as the rice cooked. It was another dinner on our patio as the sun went down. What better way to end the day? But, it didn’t end there! We went down again to Rastoni, the chill bar below our accommodations, for a tsipouro nightcap. What a beautiful spot over looking the port.
