Naxos, Greece to Koufonissi, September 17, 2025

Before we left Naxos, I took a picture of the funky Van Bar and a huge ferry which was transporting trucks. Some were loaded with marble which had been quarried on the island. Our ferry arrived at noon and left on time for our fast 35 minute trip to Koufonissi. Our host was waiting at the port to drive us to Anna Villas, minutes from the port. We settled in an headed out for lunch, a ten minute walk. Jill couldn’t resist ordering fried cheese. It was delicious. She insisted I have some because, to my surprise, she said she was going to have some of my calamari. Was Jill finally going to the culinary dark side? Yes. She enjoyed it and suggested we share a plate next time. After picking up some groceries, wine and  beer, we headed for the local beach by the port for our first swim.

The water was as we remembered it, crystal clear and refreshing. It is the warmest at this time of year. We were here two years ago but two weeks earlier. There were a lot fewer people. We watched the small beach ferries come and go in the port. They go from beach to beach throughout the day. I also got a picture of the larger Skopelitis (Small Cyclades Lines) which we will take back to Naxos and then catch the Blue Star Ferry to Ios. Skopelitis is the only ferry which runs year round. It is the lifeline for those on the Small Cyclades Islands. It is free for all inhabitants. It delivers goods and takes locals to doctors when needed and keeps running under some of the worst of sea conditions. When we walked back to Anna Villas I took a few pictures. Our unit is bottom floor on the far left with a lovely sea view.

I got a nice picture of the sunset clouds as we walked to have dinner. We went back to the restaurant where we had lunch. We shared a Caesar salad with chicken and bacon, and a pizza. The salad with chicken, cheese, and bacon was scrumptious. We were full when the pizza arrived. It was definitely unique as you will see from the picture. Even the folded crust was stuffed with sauce and cheese. We had to take some home. With wine, it was a mere €30, a bargain.

We noticed a huge yacht at the port and decided to check it out after dinner. It was named Stella M in honour of the owner’s grandmother when it was launched in 2025. It cost $180 million. We found out it was owned by a Brazilian billionaire media generational owner with four kids who lives in Rio de Janeiro. He is worth $3.1 billion. It was stunningly beautiful as you can see by the pictures.
