Day 6, Paleochora, Crete, Greece

Day 6

Another day with no plans.  After breakfast, we both looked at each other and said, “Hey, lets walk to Psilos Volakas beach.” It is just 2.2 km away and slightly under a half-hour walk.  It was as we remembered, but the water wasn’t as clear due to the swells coming in.  We shared a beer, had a swim, a short nap on the loungers and back we walked.  I took a picture of the Paleochora sign by the beach with numerous bullets holes, very intriguing.

Rather than taking the road all the way back, we found a path that took us to the end of the sandy beach where there is a small very busy cantina.  Off with our sandals and we walked the beach to where we exited to check out a grocery store that had been recommended for its fresh produce.  We decided to cook in tonight.  The butcher had some pork neck steaks that looked perfect for a slow cooked dinner.

Back home we had a snack of olives, cheese and salami in place of going out for lunch.  I started preparing our dinner while Jill went on our balcony to work on her dotting art.  We found a lovely round rock that she was dotting.  Usually, Jill starts off by painting the rock black, but this time the test rock was left natural grey.  It looked awesome with the colours she chose, but alas not ready to show or photograph.

Our slow cooked dinner was ready a little after 6.  It was delicious and dining on our balcony worked out so well.  We like eating in when we can using fresh local ingredients.  After dinner we went up to the roof terrace with a bottle of bubbly to watch the sunset.  It was the first time that the light from the sun radiated with patches of blue.  Maria, the daughter of our hosts, brought us a plate of goodness to go with our wine.  After the sun went down we headed in to town and stopped at Agios Bar for a delicious drink called Twisted Spring Mango with passion fruit foam.  I could have had one after another, but Jill insisted we share just one and then we walked home.  A great day with no plans.

  1. Love the photos! That mango, passion fruit drink sounds delicious, and no photo. Great collection of rocks. I pressed preview and saw that they added the word "amp" under name. I'll have to see how to fix.
