Today was a down day as it is our last day in Torremolinos and a beautiful sunny day. The water was so blue. I slept in while Jill organized our onward travel. We made lunch from what we didn’t want to take away with us. We had a nice walk on the beach where I collected stones for my ongoing necklace hobby. I could not believe how many beautiful flat stones I picked in such a short period. I had to hold myself back from the cornucopia of stones showing themselves to me as we walked. I said to Jill, I have to stop and still I found more. The sand here is a dirty grey, not the best but the water was cold and crystal clear. As we walked back to exit the beach, the sand got hotter and hotter and pain was underfoot. There were foot washing stations and showers at all the beach exits. Impressive!
We were impressed with the cleanliness of the town. There were street cleaners every morning hosing down sidewalks from the night’s activities and individual street cleaners throughout the day sweeping up cigarette butts and anything else that didn’t belong. Police presence was minimal as everyone was well behaved.
The presence of the gay community visiting and living with complete acceptance was wonderful. Growing up in Sydney, Australia, another LGBTQ+ hotspot, was similar. My parents taught me that it didn’t matter what your life preference was.
Our location, looking east, allowed us to watch the planes coming into Málaga, one after another during peak times. Yesterday, we watched kite surfers practicing for the Men’s and Women’s Formula Kite Championships, a big event for Torremolinos. And the sunsets are brilliant.
Before dinner, we walked into town and played some pool and shopped for dinner. We bought a pork sausage ring, cubanelle peppers, arugula and a tomato for a salad. Pork is the main meat in Spain and their pork sausages are fabulous, just as good as Portugal. Dinner was delicious. So simple with just red wine and peppers and a salad.
Tomorrow we are taking a train and bus to Nerja.
