Day 11, Paleochora, Crete, Greece

Day 11

After considering all of our options, we decided that we would stay put and enjoy our sandy beach. Time slipped away from us. I walked into town to the small butcher shop and bought three large ground meat on a stick to cook at home.  Before I headed out, I shredded a quarter cabbage and dressed it so that it would soften.  Whatever the meat was, it was seasoned perfectly and tasted delicious, possibly lamb and beef.  Lunch on our balcony was quite warm. The temperature was supposed to be 27 feeling like 26. I don’t understand how that happens.

Kiki, the owner, saw Jill’s partially finished stone dot art and hoped Jill would make one for her before we left so that she had a memento of our stay.  They are a very nice family and with this being our third stay, we feel like family.   Before we had lunch, we walked over to the Stoney beach in search of stones.  We took a different route around the tip of the peninsula and passed an eclectic art installation beside the Aris Hotel.  Their interesting use of natural pieces showed their eye for seeing beauty in nature.  I took several pictures of the rocky side of the peninsula as we walked to the stone beach.  The crocodile plays an important part in the background of most of these shots.

After lunch, we got right into our dotting.  A lot of fun seeing creations develop.  For a break, we decided to walk along the sandy beach.  We even walked past the nudists flaunting their bits.  The sun was dazzling as it was dropping closer to the horizon.  We reminded ourselves to burn this memory into our memory banks.  When our memories fail, we will always have my blog to go back to as we have done many times before.

We decided to go out for dinner to Aunt’s Taverna.  Jill had heard about it on Trip Advisor.  Jill had the lemon chicken with oven roast potatoes and I had the grilled sea bream.  All I can say is excellent.  Jill’s meal was delicios, perfect balance with the lemon and seasoning.  My sea bream was a bargain, which I had with a salad.  Perfect in every way.  There were many cats which entertained us as they jumped down from the roof next door. What a lovely way to end another great day.

Day 10, September 22, 2024, Going Home

Our taxi driver was a Greek woman with a strong Aussie accent. She had moved to Australia with her parents in the sixties. She asked me what...
