Day 5
After breakfast, we decided to walk the 5 km to Gialiskari beach. The road, as soon as we got out of town, was very rough, sandy and stoney. It took us a little over an hour and the view along the way was spectacular. The beaches are made up of small to large river stones, the largest are the size of footballs probably millions of years old. After a small draught at the beach, we made our way to the virtually deserted Anidri beach, which is closer to Paleochora but just one over from Gialiskari. Only one young female nudist and us, quite acceptable in my books. We did however, keep our distance. The water was exactly what we needed to cool down before heading back. We were bagged by the time we got back to Paleochora.
We picked Portofino for dinner, not just a pizza restaurant, and picked a table out front. The breeze was welcomed as clouds textured the evening sky. Jill had stuffed peppers and I had beef stifado, an authentic Greek dish of stewing beef with whole baby onions equal to the amount of meat. The spicing is what makes it unique, with cinnamon and cloves making up the dominate flavours. It was excellent as were Jill’s stuffed peppers. Of course, watermelon and raki on the house topped off the meal. We were stuffed.
Before we fell asleep we reviewed the pictures of the day. Some very nice ones for the blog.
Fabulous day!
