Paleochora, Crete, Greece, Day 2

No rain last night but a huge electrical storm knocked out our power until this morning. The day cleared as we had breakfast on the roof terrace. Our hotel serves a full breakfast which is included, as well as sun beds on the beach. We walked along the beach to the end where the nudists like to hang out, pun intended. We kept our heads down so we didn't spoil our memories of Paleochora. After walking back we had a long swim where we continued with our daily swimming exercises of over 200 strokes. We are both feeling more fit as a result. We were hungry.

We found the fish shop and were thrilled at the selection but realized in order to cook fresh fish at our place we needed a larger fry pan, so we bought one. Fish for another day but today's lunch was pork chops and a tomato, cucumber, red pepper, caper, and kalamata olive, oil and vinegar salad. Eating al fresco on our balcony was so enjoyable. We do get a little tired of restaurant eating and being able to cook at our place with fresh ingredients is the bomb. The wine is also cheaper although a half litre of wine rages from 3.5 to 5 Euros at a restaurant, a bargain compared to back home.

After a siesta, we went for a walk and learned about a three day music festival just a ten minute  walk east of us, as well as how to get to another beach a 3 mile walk. We walked on our favourite stone beach and looked forward to swimming there. The restaurants were setting up for tonight's diners and we decided where to eat. We picked the restaurant by the fish shop. The meals people were eating looked good. It was busy, a good sign. The nights are cooling down a little so long sleeves were in order. Jill had schnitzel and I had grilled octopus. Not sure if I will be growing 8 or 10 tentacles. We shared a green salad. Then off to our hotel for espresso and Metaxa to complete the evening.
